The maritime cluster is cooperating more closely with the logistics cluster to promote Luxembourg as a major logistics hug in Europe. The two networking organisations share a common manager in Senior Cluster Manager Alain Krecké (no relation to the out-going Economy Minister). About 80% of the two clusters’ events are held together, but they maintain their own identity and their own cluster programme. Krecké explained at a mid- December joint event that the clusters are focussing on multi-modal services and trying to find ways to serve niche markets using the country’s position on trans-Europe transport routes. More than 200 ships sail under the Luxembourg flag and about 300 shipping companies maintain offices here. The transportation sector is also set to continue to grow, said maritime cluster president Freddy Bracke, even though logistics firms are still reeling from the last economic crisis.
