The government supports the implementation of a major industrial project: agreement signed with AMPACET Luxembourg

On 1 December 2011, the Luxembourg government represented by Jeannot Krecké, Minister of the Economy and Foreign Trade, signed an agreement with Ampacet Luxembourg S.à r.l., represented by its managing director Giuseppe Giusto, in attendance of the mayor of the city of Dudelange, Alex Bodry. The Government supports Ampacet through a variety of financial measures stipulated by the law of 15 July 2008 on the economic development of certain regions in the country.

Ampacet Luxembourg, the newly created owner and managing entity of the production site in Luxembourg, plans an initial investment of EUR 25 million in the industrial zone Riedchen in Dudelange.

The company will purchase an industrial building which was operated by HUSKY Injection Molding Systems S.A until 2009. The premises have remained empty since Husky underwent restructuring in 2009 and the government is pleased to see a new large industrial business start up its activities on site.

Ampacet will install a new high capacity production line for the manufacturing of masterbatches representing a 60 % capacity increase of its related product lines in Europe. An additional 50 staff will be joining the production site once the plant is fully operational. Ampacet has already contacted ADEM in order to start the hiring and training process of additional staff.

Ampacet will also set up a new Innovation center in Dudelange for its customers. Moreover, its European Headquarters currently established in Windhof, Luxembourg, will be transferred to the new premises and increase the total personnel to a future 125 employees at the Dudelange site.

The start up of a production site in Luxembourg is Ampacet’s solution to its European customers’ increasing demand for masterbatches. The size of the plant in the industrial zone Riedchen will enable Ampacet to install additional production lines in order to adapt to future market developments in the coming years.

This new industrial activity is a source of wealth and employment; it will contribute to the diversification of Luxembourg’s economic and industrial activities. The undertaking is a great opportunity for the Luxembourg economy and the government is delighted to see the world’s leading manufacturer of masterbatches set up in Luxembourg and is proud to help with the implementation of such a major industrial undertaking especially in times where other economic players prefer to proceed with caution.
Ampacet, whose creation dates back to 1937, is the world leader for the development, manufacturing and distribution of masterbatches. Ampacet Corporation, the parent company, is a New York based American enterprise specialised in the manufacturing of masterbatches and a leading supplier to the plastics industry.

Masterbatches are used in the production of a large variety of consumer goods, namely in the areas of foodstuffs, health, construction and infrastructure in general, etc. Plastic is part of our daily lives and has become irreplaceable namely because of its excellent characteristics and capacity to be adapted to our needs. Masterbatches give life to plastic by modifying its properties and qualities (UV resistance, protection of foodstuffs, fire-retarding property, traceability and recycling, etc.) or simply by improving the looks, design and function of plastic. Ampacet’s flagships range all the way from black and white masterbatches to color and additive masterbatches which adapt the properties of plastic to its many uses.

Ampacet has sites in North America, Canada, Latin America and in the Asia-Pacific region but also several production lines in Europe such as Belgium (Messancy), Italy, United-Kingdom, Poland and Russia.

Ampacet’s European headquarters in Luxembourg manage all of their European activities in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and provide a variety of services to their European subsidiaries and branch offices. In 2010, Ampacet Europe’s consolidated turnover was in excess of EUR 330 millions.
